Black Onyx
Known already to ancient cultures, this gemstone's name, "Onyx", is derived from the language of as old a culture as the Assyrian, where, interestingly enough, the word
indicated a "Ring". Being of the same crystal affiliation and chemical make up as Agate and Cornelian, all being examples of the crystal structure known as Chalcedony, it manifests, typically, various colors, as well as several colors within the same finished item, since it is generated through the natural piling of layers, each, possibly of different color. By curving--various colors may be exposed in various parts of the curved stones, as is done in intaglios and cameos, so much appreciated throughout the ages. |

In its stunning jet black appearance it has been chosen by our designers as a unique addition to our Black Zone, being also reminiscent in color of our Black Titanium and Black Zirconium collection. Black Onyx jewellery projects the dramatic statement of black elegance and beauty characteristic also of our other materials of choice in our Black Zone. Onyx jewellery items must be handles with care as, despite their metallic look, they are, after all a crystal that may chip or even break upon hitting a hard surface. Similarly, one should consider carefully whether an Onyx ring is proper as a wedding band, due to the same considerations. We recommend Onyx bands as an imposing fashion statement when worn stacked 3 to 4 of them. For further suggestions do not hesitate to address us. |
